The Missouri Department of Conservation and Missouri Trappers Association are offering a beginners fur trapping clinic Oct. 3-4 at Whetstone Creek Conservation Area in Williamsburg.

The free clinic is open to anyone ages 10 and up, but the class is limited to 25 participants, according to a news release. Students must register by Oct. 1 by calling Tom Westhoff at 573-289-0242.

The clinic starts 1 p.m. Oct. 3 and will cover regulations, traps, trap accessories, fur handling and everything necessary to get one started trapping furbearers, the release stated.

The clinic ends at approximately noon Oct. 4. Meals will be provided Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

This is a mostly outdoor event and COVID-19 guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will be followed.

The clinic will provide all the information one needs to get started trapping and students will conduct trapping in the conservation area, with plans to catch several different species of fur bearing animals.
