England likely to Pause Ban on fur imports

The Government is looking likely to drop plans to ban imports of foie gras and fur in new animal welfare legislation due to opposition within the Cabinet, according to reports.

The new measures were set to be included in the Animals Abroad Bill, but a number of ministers are reported to have raised differing concerns about the proposals.

British farmers are already banned from producing foie gras, a controversial liver-based speciality French food because its production involves force-feeding ducks or geese to fatten their livers. However, the luxury foodstuff can still be imported from abroad.
