From his obituary... Johnny is well-known to generations of trappers and fur takers. His documented fur catches are legendary; he was the record bounty trapper on the East Coast for several years. His first articles appeared in Fur, Fish, & Game beginning in 1956. Johnny has continued to trap and write about his trap line experiences for industry publications such as Trapper’s World, even as he neared his eighth decade. Legendary trapper, seasoned treasure hunter, and master woodcarver are just some of the titles Johnny earned in his long and colorful life. He was also an accomplished writer, with hundreds of outdoor articles to his credit, written over the course of half a century. He published his memoir, “50 Years A Trapper & Treasure Hunter” in 1995 and it has remained in print to the present, a testament to Thorpe’s storytelling talent. Poststar.com
