More than 15 years ago, I came across an article about the birds of Klamath National Wildlife Refuge. In it was one line that simply mentioned that the refuge hired a muskrat trapper to prevent damage to the dikes. That seemed odd, and I couldn’t imagine why a trapper would be working in a wildlife refuge. I made some calls- and the next thing I knew we were headed into the Klamath refuge in the middle of winter to immerse ourselves in a fascinating story about invasive species, wildlife protection, the history of Klamath Wildlife Refuge and the fading culture of trapping in this part of Oregon. So here’s one from the archives circa 2001 (voiced by Steve Amen) - Ed Jahn, Executive Producer.
