In 1969, a 9-year-old Schumann trapped two muskrats and received $6.25 for one and $2.25 for the other. He was hooked on trapping.
At age 18, he had his first 1,000 muskrat season.
From there on, 3,000 rats per year was average.
Along with that, a couple hundred coon and a hundred beaver would be added to his yearly capture as well.
This well respected trapper has entertained and educated many at local, state and national conventions. He has created an educational, entertaining video series including Rat Race, Beaver in the Bank and Raccoon Riot. He has also been featured in F& T’s North American Trapper.
Schumann, almost 50- years-old now, has never missed a trapping season since he first began. At his seminars, he welcomes any and all questions and encourages engaging dialog.
“Schumann is sure to be a big hit at the convention,” said Dennis Girardi, veteran trapper and longtime member of U.P. Trappers. “This event sure has a lot to offer for the outdoor enthusiast and all members of his/her family. It’s a great place to learn, be entertained, win prizes and have fun. There are good prices on supplies and no shipping charges. Also the food available on the grounds is outstanding.”
Johnson began trapping in Georgia at age 12. From there, he went on to make his living off of trapping which he continues today.
Johnson does a lot of nuisance/ damage control harvest. His full time business, Critter Solutions, has been in successful operation for over 15 years. Johnson markets his own lures and works with Mark June and Tom Krause training some of America’s top professional and predator control trappers. He also helped Mark June film his blockbuster Bobcat and Coyote DVD “Reducing the Numbers.” He sums up his life in a few words, “I try to be prepared, organized and determined, and after years of hard work I have got it down to a science.
Trapping is my passion, way of life and how I support my family. I am blessed to be able to do what I love every day.”
Hundreds of sporting goods, trapping, hunting, fishing equipment dealers, tailgaters, and others will be on hand.
Many will be offering “convention sale specials.” Many food vendors featuring great local and U.P. cuisine will be on the grounds as well. Raffles, kid’s games and a free youngster’s fishing pond will keep the youngsters entertained.
