Overview:
Set in the Oregon territory in the early 1800s, this historical drama from director Kelly Reichardt follows the friendship of two outsiders. King-Lu (Orion Lee) is a Chinese immigrant on the lam, and Cookie (Will Oldham) is a lone cook who has taken up with a fur trapping party. When Cookie finds King-Lu starving and naked in the woods, he chooses to befriend him rather than turn him in. This sparse film provokes more questions than it answers, but it will leave you thinking about the kind of intense feelings that can develop from difficult circumstances.
