Opinion: I'll tell you one thing, I don't do this anymore. I've gotten more beavers TORTURED and not dead because of this tactic than I care to discuss. They'll still be (often not always) alive in the morning with the trap around their lower-midsection. I find this tactic to be an insult, and especially in my state (NY) where we have an ample otter population. In NY the otter season has only been quashed by politics and nothing else (so told to me in person by Sr. Furbearer Biologist of NYS). That's just my personal experience, maybe it works for you.
