STONINGTON – The Standard Journal is reporting… Sixty-four of the 683 mink allegedly released on Oct. 19 from a Northumberland County farm remain missing, and three were found deceased. Authorities report 619 have been recaptured.
The suspects, 29-year-old Christopher Legere and 27-year-old Cara Mitrano, both of Worcester, Mass., face charges including felony eco-terrorism, corrupt organizations, agricultural vandalism, burglary, and animal cruelty, according to Trooper Jacob Hook. Surveillance footage allegedly shows the pair in dark clothing, releasing minks at Richard H. Stahl and Sons Inc. and damaging records.

During their escape, they allegedly struck the farm owner’s vehicle and were later stopped by police. Inside their vehicle, officers reportedly found cutting tools, maps, and anarchist materials. Both remain in custody on $150,000 bail with hearings set for Oct. 29. FBI intelligence links the suspects to anarchist groups in Worcester, officials noted. The Daily Item reports state police believe one of the suspects was paid $50,000 to come to Sunbury and release the animals.
