WI: Event: French fur trade era re-enactor camps

The Chippewa County Historical Society will present it’s 15th Annual The Past Passed Here May 10th thru 13th, in Allen Park, Chippewa Falls. This award-winning event is open to the public Thursday, May 10 and Friday, May 11 from 3 to 6 p.m., Saturday, May 12 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, May 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Journey back in time to the early 1800s and experience Chippewa County’s living history. Explore dozens of authentic French fur trade era re-enactor camps and participate in hands-on camp activities and games including archery, atlatl, hawk throw, canoe paddle race, cat & mouse and flint and steel fire starting. Learn how the Ojibwa harvested wild rice and maple syrup, how beeswax candles and ropes are made and how pies are baked on a campfire. Tour the Mobile Lumbering Museum and learn about dozens of jobs lumberjacks performed. Sample a variety of old fashioned food including Indian fry bread, buffalo burgers, voyager stew, Olson’s Ice Cream, root beer floats, popcorn and fresh pretzels. Buy old-fashioned candy, replica antique goods in trader’s row and make a souvenir pendant.
