Better late than never, it is time once again for me to post a description of this event and officially INVITE EVERYONE, including newbies and lurkers, to join us and participate in the event. We want everyone to feel at home and jump right in. Here’s how it works:
On Saturday afternoon/evening of the FTA Convention at the Marshfield fairgrounds, we will hold the Trapperman Feed, serving food and drink to all folks who come to join us. The Trapperman Feed is organized here on the Trapperman website and everyone is welcome. We get a lot of regulars in Wisconsin who have joined us and don’t even own computers!
The Feed will take place near the northwest corner of the fairgrounds, on the north side of the north horse barn. (The only thing further north of us is campers, so we’re easy to spot.) We will be starting the Feed at about 4:30 to give folks plenty of time to join us before the auction starts Saturday evening. I will set up a drop-off site on Friday at the north horse barn where people can drop off food and supplies ahead of time. There will be a sign and some coolers around, but anyone who can bring their food in big coolers with ice and loan us their coolers until after the Feed is greatly appreciated.
People offer to bring food, beverages and other needed supplies, and volunteer time to help cook, clean up, or do some other odd jobs for the Feed. On Saturday, all day, we begin prepping and cooking food, and setting things up.
We don’t set a price for the meal, but we put out a big donation jar and everyone throws in what they can on their way through the line. When the Feed is over, we use those funds first to pay off any outstanding bills for supplies, and then we will be splitting the remaining donations between the Fur Takers, the Wisconsin Trappers Association and the Trapperman Discretionary Fund (which helps trapping families going through tragedies, illnesses, etc.). At the Feed, we usually have a few donated free door prizes to give away as well. We have a great time, with great food, and a chance to put some faces to the names of some fine folks who we know from this site. After the Feed, volunteers help out with our clean up. People also come by to pick up their dishes, extension cords, grills, etc, etc, etc. We wash everything and lay it all out on tables for everyone to pick up later or the next morning.
During these days leading up to the event, people are jumping in and committing to what they can bring or do by replying to this post, or by sending me a PM. I will continually update the “Master List” of who has committed to bring what, which you can find at the top of the first page of this post. As we get more commitments, I will get an updated Want List posted up there to beg for things we still need. We appreciate all contributions, large and small, and all the help with cleanup we can get. It is also really helpful if you are able to post in the next few days before we go out and order or buy our final food and supplies. We always love your home grown and homemade goodies. I will be putting in final food orders for anything we’re missing or in need of with stores up in Marshfield on Tuesday, June 26th. If you don’t bring anything, just put more cash in that jar on your way through the line!
Welcome newbies, welcome lurkers, and welcome to all of you familiar and unfamiliar faces – we all look forward to seeing you there!!!
Your Wisconsin TMan Feed Gestapo,
Patrice
