HERMANSVILLE — The date for the 14th Annual Young Trapper’s Workshop has been set. This fun-filled learning event will take place at the Community Center in Hermansville Michigan at 8 a.m. CST Saturday. Admission is free and this event is open to the public. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase throughout the day.

“Even though this workshop is titled Young Trapper’s, it is certainly attended by and enjoyed by adults as well. Many veteran trappers attend, and always seem to learn more tricks of the trade from the demonstrations offered. This is a great event where the Old Timers of District 3 have as much fun teaching the kids as the kids do learning from them” stated Mike Lewis (long-time member of U.P. Trappers and coordinator of workshop). “We are continually trying to make this event better and better each year,” Lewis added.

Local trapping veterans will be giving demonstrations on harvesting various furbearers. They will not only show how to effectively capture the critters but will also emphasize: safety, rules, proper trap size and type to use for a fair and humane capture. That along with the methods and techniques they share will help all to get started in the sport, or be more successful fur harvesters. Open questions and answers during the demos are welcome and encouraged.

A Professional Fur Handler will be giving his demonstration on the proper methods to put up various species. Taking in this demo will help all fur harvesters get the top dollar for their catch.

Trapping supply dealers and a fur buyer will be on hand as well, making this a good place to stock up on necessary supplies and/or make some money on your furs.

There will be door prizes, raffles and other fun items throughout the day and each youngster attending will be issued free trapping gear and will be guaranteed to win an outdoors sports type of prize.
